This Cape kitchen had great bones — but the layout, finishes, and lighting hadn’t changed since the 1970s. Our clients wanted something more timeless and intuitive, with features they’d use and love every day.

A couple who had just purchased a new home in North Falmouth came to us with a clear vision: transform their outdated 1977 contemporary kitchen into a clean, functional space. The existing layout was a jumble of tired finishes, awkward transitions, and structural quirks. What they wanted was a cohesive, stylish kitchen that feels just right — perfect for entertaining friends or enjoying a quiet morning coffee.

Challenges We Faced

This remodel came with a long list of hidden headaches. From outdated tongue-and-groove planking on the ceiling to twisted support posts, nearly every surface told the story of improperly executed renovations. The wet bar in the dining area was poorly implemented, and the kitchen lighting was dim and uneven. But the biggest issues were structural — the framing was erratic, and the electrical systems were a tangled mess that had clearly evolved in fits and starts over the years.

Our Smart Solutions

Our Design Remodel Specialist (DRS) took the lead in orchestrating a full redesign. We transformed the old hi/low bar into a sleek, multi-functional island anchored by a chef-style sink with dual faucets — ideal for prep and clean-up. Lighting was another major upgrade: we installed recessed LED ceiling fixtures, under-cabinet lighting, and bold pendants over the island and dining table — bringing warmth and balance to every corner.

Materials & Finishes

The cabinetry was custom-made by Cabico, selected in a soft white finish to reflect natural light and keep the room feeling open. Countertops were upgraded to durable quartz in a warm tone, paired with a stacked white ripple tile backsplash for subtle texture. We kept the existing flooring, which now complements the new finishes beautifully.

The Final Result

The completed space is a far cry from the outdated, awkward original. By removing visual clutter and resolving structural flaws, we created a layout that feels intuitive and elegant. The coffee bar is now a daily favorite, and the lighting upgrade has dramatically enhanced the way the homeowners use and enjoy their space.

    At Design Remodel, your kitchen remodel is built around a single, all-in project price — so you’re not left chasing line items or navigating surprise add-ons halfway through.

  • From the time your project is officially booked into our schedule, most Cape Cod kitchen remodels take between 8 to 14 Plus weeks to complete once construction begins — depending on the size of the kitchen and the scope of work involved.

    Projects that involve restructuring walls, reframing, or major layout changes may take longer, especially if structural engineering or additional permitting is needed. We’ll walk you through those factors up front and map out a clear plan.

    Time for final design selections, material ordering, and permitting is built in before demo begins — so your project stays on schedule from the start.

    You’ll receive an overview schedule from the beginning — and as your Design Remodel Specialist (DRS), John keeps things on track and communicates at every step.
