These are approximate duration of typical projects and can and will vary from project to project based upon existing conditions, complexity of the design, local requirements and so forth.

Most remodeling projects have about 7 phases from start to finish.

  • Design
  • Planning
  • Mobilization
  • Protection:
  • Deconstruction
  • Remodeling
  • Demobilization

Design:

This phase is where we mix your ideas and thoughts with our suggestions and concepts. Developing one or more designs that fits your home and your budget and in turn fulfilling your needs and wants. This is where we take advantage of the technology tools that are available such as design software, the Internet for resources and research. John Clark, the owner of @designREMODEL is actively involved in helping you discover the right design solution for your home.

Planning:

This is where a lot of work takes place to ensure that your project is delivered on time and within budget. Many folks are surprised to hear that for every 8 working hours expended on a project, at least 2 hrs are spent on planning.

This includes researching and ordering of project materials. Requesting and reviewing vendor and trade-partner quotes. Putting together documentation required for permitting. Visiting projects to check existing conditions and so forth.

To some, all this planning may seem unnecessarily complicated. On the contrary, the more planning we do the smoother and simpler the project will flow together.

Mobilization:

This phase is preparing for the actual project. Typically we may have a dumpster delivered to the project site, a tool and materials trailer is designated for the project.

Fixtures, fittings and items like cabinets have been ordered and delivered to our warehouse, where they are checked to ensure they are damage free and correctly ordered.

Protection:

Here,we are taking care to ensure your home is protected. We create walk ways to the work space using a slip resistant paper that resist liquid spills. All furniture etc. in adjacent spaces are covered with plastic for dust protection.

A fan will sometimes be placed in a window to draw dust laden air out. On the exterior, we have built plywood enclosures to protect plants and shrubbery.

Deconstruction:

Is often the dustiest, dirtiest part of project as we sawz-all, sledgehammer and demolish our way through the workspace. Often times, if anything is worth saving, we will bring it to a "free tree" in Cataumet where it is usually scooped up within hours!

Remodeling:

Here we create the sweet sound of saws and hammers. Deconstruction and framing tend to proceed rapidly. Insulation & plaster are next followed by finish work that proceeds at a more moderate pace. And the in-famous punchlist? Let's just say that we rarely allow for punchlist's as our crew is trained to take care of stuff as we go.

Demobilization:

This phase wraps it all up with a ribbon tied around it! We remove all the debris, tools and equipment and we work hard to restore your home to a pre-construction state with a thorough cleaning. Like a good house guest, we want to leave a project better than we found it. Sure! we want to be invited back.
